– summary for Monday 8 August to Sunday 14 August 2016.

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 5 August and could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M6 junctions 16 to 19: Cheshire smart motorway
Work is underway for the smart motorway upgrade – typically with 1 or 2 lanes closed overnight between junctions in both directions and/or mobile lane closures along short sections of carriageway. More information about the project is available on the project website: http://www.highways.gov.uk/roads/roa...mart-motorway/

M6 junctions 29 to 30
Work began on 1 August to resurface 2 miles of carriageway between junction 29 and junction 30 around the interchange with the M61. The work will cover 3 lanes in both directions. Full carriageway closures will be in place between 9pm and 5am (7am at weekends) while work takes place. Work this weekend (southbound carriageway closures between the 2 junctions on Saturday and Sunday nights) will be followed by the closure of the exit slip road at junction 30 onto the M61 on Monday and Tuesday nights (8 and 9 August). Drivers can join the M61 via the M65 from junction 29 of the M6.

M6 junction 32 bridge repairs
The second phase of repairs to Fylde Higher Bridge near Broughton, which carries the M6 southbound link road onto westbound M55 will start on Tuesday (9 August) and includes a full southbound carriageway closure overnight on Wednesday (10 August). A diversion will be in place via junction 1 of the M55.

Work is ongoing on the southbound carriageway for surfacing, drainage and barrier renewal works. There will be a full overnight closure in place on Monday 8 August.

M60 junction 8 Sale to junction 20 Rochdale
A major scheme is taking place to cut congestion and improve journey times on parts of the M60 and the M62 in Greater Manchester. The scheme involves overnight slip road and carriageway closures with a 50mph limit in place for the safety of workers and drivers. A significant programme of temporary night closures has been programmed to fit gantries with wiring and signs, which will take the project to May 2017. Work to install the scheme’s final ‘supergantry’ will take place overnight tomorrow (Saturday 6 August) between junction 12 and junction 13 of the M60 with a full carriageway closure and signed diversions in place. These are detailed on the journey impact tab of the project page and updated weekly, subject to weather conditions. See the project page for details: http://www.highways.gov.uk/roads/roa...62-junction-20 The project is due to be completed in autumn 2017.
