A short programme of bridge repairs near junction 1 of the M55 at Broughton in Lancashire will get underway later this month.

D’Urton Lane bridge, which crosses the motorway just east of junction 1, needs a new bridge joint. The £57,000 Highways England repairs are being done during a series of overnight closures of the motorway over the next few weeks starting on Monday 15 August.

Highways England project manager Mark Mosley said:

Our regular inspections show water is getting into the bridge joint and we need to take action to ensure the bridge will continue to have a long life.

We have planned the work carefully to take place at night when traffic is at its lowest levels.

The overnight closures – between junction 1 of the M55 and junction 32 of the M6 - will take place from 9pm to 6am each night with the eastbound carriageway closed overnight on Monday 15, Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 August and westbound closures on Monday 22, Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24th August.

Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place during the closures.

A 50mph speed limit will be in place on the approach and throughout the works at all times.
